Our Studio & Residence is located in Port Townsend, WA. The house is clad in clear yellow cedar and orients to maximize solar gain for both interior lighting and heating. The Structure is constructed from 2x8 framing milled from onsite Douglas Fir timber. The large insulation cavity of the walls provides an R-31 value for a very energy efficient envelope. The vertical cedar rainscreen cladding protects the structure from the elements with optimizing drying and airflow. The raised patio and porch provide year-round functional exterior spaces. Onsite boulders and stones were incorporated into the exterior concrete work.. The 2000 sf residence was conceptually driven by both a desire to be up in the trees, while also rooted and connected to the site. Daylighting, views and access to the exterior spaces organized the layout or the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom floor plane.
